Overview

Yorkstone Floor Protection St Albans Abbey

A £7 million Welcome Centre has opened at St Albans Abbey, offering visitors a fresh way to explore the church’s history.

Designed to blend seamlessly with the 1077 abbey and chapter house, the new building harmonizes with its historic surroundings while providing a modern visitor experience.

Prestige was honored to contribute to this project by protecting the new Yorkstone flooring. With high foot traffic expected, Cathedral staff wanted to ensure the stone remained in pristine condition. They asked whether a protective barrier could be applied without altering the stone’s natural appearance.

To prepare the floor for sealing, we first deep cleaned it using the Hos Sprayborg stone cleaning system along with a Hydro Force rinse extraction setup. This process effectively removed debris and residues left behind during construction.

Next, we applied Lithofin Stain Stop, a specialist impregnator designed to protect natural and engineered stone surfaces from stains. It helps prevent oil, grease, and water from penetrating the stone, making future maintenance easier and more effective.

Preserving historic spaces requires expert care. If your stone flooring needs protection or restoration, we have the expertise to ensure long-lasting results. Contact us today to discuss your project and discover how we can help protect your investment.
